Tips on HP SimplePass fingerprint reader, by Digital Persona, to make it easy to logon to secure applications and web sites. Using HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader in Windows 8. HP SimplePass. For HP Products.
Will Windows 10 natively support fingerprint readers for doing more than just logging in? I have a fingerprint reader that is recognized by the OS, but the software that came with the reader fails to recognize the reader.
Since Windows recognizes it, I am able to log in with the fingerprint reader just fine. I do miss being able to log into certain applications by fingerprint, and so am wondering if this functionality will eventually be supported. I suspect I won't be getting any updated software from Dell, so this is probably the only hope for this.

The software (DigitalPersona) worked fine after I upgraded an 8.1 machine to 10, just not on a fresh 10 installation. It installs and runs correctly, it just doesn't see that the fingerprint reader is installed, though Windows itself recognizes the reader just fine. In my post I was as much suggesting that more biometric features be added to Windows because of situations like mine as much as trying to get this working now.
It may be a future windows driver/update will help, and I know the compatibility wizard is not generally recommended for security software. I install the Lenovo Fingerprint Software in-compatibility mode, and the fingerprint read works fine in that software(I can login the software with right fingerprint), but I still can't login windows by fingerprint, and I can't find the fingerprint option in login setting. (Thinkpad R400, the fingerprint sensor is AuthenTec.AES2810). Hi BigMac, Thank you for sharing your part of query on the forums. If you have the raw executable file of the corresponding driver for the validity sensor, I would suggest you to install the downloaded driver file in compatible mode with Windows 7 or 8.
Refer to the following steps to do so. Right click on the driver, and click on Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab.

I too am having issues with the built in fingerprint function in 10 but mine is different from some of the others in this thread. I have found no way to erase the fingerprint data once entered or change the account that it points to. So, my situation is that I deleted one of the accounts that I formally used the finger printer reader to access but it did not delete the fingerprint record. When I try to scan my fingerprint for a new account it tells me that the finger is already scanned.
So it is but the record points to a non-existing account. How do I get the reader to point to the correct account? Hi BigMac, Thank you for sharing your part of query on the forums.

The issue I had was not with the driver, (win10 found and preinstalled it) There seems to be no native support for it though It's the old versions of HP security software. In 7pro & 8/8.1 builds the only way I could get the Biometrics working was by installing and using the HP security software (which activates and uses the on board TPM module) I was uncomfortable activating the TPM on a TP10 build (in case I borked the MBoard and locked myself out) I wondered if anyone had bee able to utilise the on board bio-metrics natively in win10 (now on build 130) without having to install the HP Security Manager / Client & TPM Security.
I'll be in a position shortly to attempt an install of the HP security software and activating the TPM on this build I'll test the Drive encryption while I'm there (assuming the Security manager & Client work) I'll reply back when I get it done.
